In 1979, the program was expanded to honour students who have outstanding visual, creative and performance talents. In 2015, the program was expanded again to honour students who demonstrate skills and achievements in vocational and technical education. Each year, up to 161 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the highest awards in the country for high school students.

Eligibility for US Presidential Scholarship 2022
For the general component of the program, students who meet the following criteria; For the artistic component of the program, students who meet the following criteria;
Must be legal citizens or permanent residents of the United States before the application deadlineGraduate or obtain a diploma between January and August 2022.Show their academic success and talent in the fields of fine arts, creative arts and performing arts; and participate in the national Young Arts program of the National YoungArts Foundation.
For the CTE component of the program, students who meet the following criteria:
US citizen or permanent resident US citizen by the application deadlineWill complete their studies or graduate between January and August 2022Demonstrate academic success in technical and professional programs; andAre appointed by the state director of state schools in their state.
How to Apply US Presidential Scholarship 2022
The application for the US Presidential Scholarship Program is by invitation only. Students can not apply individually or be nominated for the program (outside of the above procedure). Deadline: February 25, 2022
